The L before earning | Traders Academy

We have been following the progress of Keeley Flint who run’s The Trader Academy for some time now and the business of bringing new traders onto the markets seems to be going from strength to strength.

We caught up with Keeley to find out all about the burning question in every potential trader – “What’s the most important thing to know or do to build a successful market stall business?”

keeley-small“You’ve heard the phrase “I wish I had £1 for every time I’ve been asked…” haven’t you?

Well, of all the questions I get asked, this is one of the most common.

“What’s the most important thing to know or do to build a successful market stall business?”

If you’ve been trading on the markets for any length of time, you’ll know that there’s so many things to know and do aren’t there.

So why is it that people want a single ONE thing that will make them into a success?

I guess it’s because as human being’s, we WANT things to be – Simple, Easy and Instant. A short-cut

We DON’T want – Complicated, Difficult and Long-winded – do we?

When I cast my mind back, it was at the time of being invited by the National Market Traders Federation to mentor a group of young traders in the First Pitch Awards, that I really analysed the question “What’s the most important thing to know or do to build a successful market stall business?”

I remember wanting to come up with a simple but meaningful answer that the mentees could take away and use to make their success as Market Traders more certain, more guaranteed.

My own mentor had drilled into me the importance of 4 key skills that have the greatest influence on a business succeeding, struggling or failing. These I was incorporating into the mentees training but it dawned on me that these were all underpinned by ONE common denominating factor.

That common denominating factor is to LEARN

To learn “How to work more on the things that matter MOST and less on the things that matter LEAST”

Because what my experience has taught me is that despite a trader being a good person with good intentions, good product and a good service, they’re often working harder on the things that give least return than working on the things that give the greatest return.

To do better than we’re currently doing, we have to start by LEARNING what we need to KNOW so we can DO the things that we don’t currently do, that we need to do. Makes sense doesn’t it?

So, if you’re open-minded, open to learning and want to do even better, I’d like to invite you to…
