18 Apr Scarborough Market – Open for business
Scarborough Market Hall and Vaults is set to reclaim its place as the beating heart of the town during this years Love Your Local Market celebrations.
The iconic building which is undergoing a £2.7m transformation has recently carried out a public consultation leaving the developers in no doubt that local shoppers, tourists and businesses have an appetite for a market offering produce that is distinct and unique to Scarborough and one which provides good quality and value for money. The consultation also made very clear that people prioritise that the market offer a warm, welcoming atmosphere, a more modern shopping experience, feel busy with an exciting hustle and bustle, and throw up some surprises.
Councillor Bill Chatt, Scarborough Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Public Health and Housing, said: “The consultation is both reinforcing our own views about the future of the market and also giving us some food for thought for the planned redevelopment.
“The research seems to suggest that if we can restore its energy and a warm welcoming atmosphere, whilst providing good quality, value for money products, people will go and enjoy their new market.”
“As a key part of the transformational plans to develop a 21st Century Market Place, we were really pleased to receive positive feedback on the planned online, virtual market, with respondents looking forward to its convenience. Also for the online market intelligence system, a resource expected to be invaluable to local businesses.”
The operators are keen to let everyone know the market is open for business during this busy time and shall be joining hundreds of other markets across the country in May to celebrate Love Your Local Market fortnight.
