Based in Newcastle, Solar Learning Services have been working towards enabling young people to develop their learning, skills and enterprise since 2008. Part of this work has driven them to instigate The Marketplace, a youth market held in a former empty shop unit in the centre of Newcastle.
Monjer Rashid came to talk about the enterprise at the recent Better Markets, Revitalised High Streets Conference where the Love Your Local Market session was heavily influenced by our objectives around youth this year. You can see from Monjer’s presentation below that the Community Interest Company are passionate about youth-led learning and seek to inspire and enable children and young people to “turn their passion into pounds” and become active citizens.
You can find out more about Solar Learning Services by giving them a ring on the number provided or going through to their website. We are really inspired by all the fantastic work they are doing with young people by helping them to promote and develop their talent and potential, irrespective of background. We hope to see market operators around the country take up this model during 2014.
