In September 2015, a successful crowdfunding campaign raised the funds needed to get Manchester Youth Market off the ground.
Applications to participate opened in December and 15 young people have already signed up to this innovative new programme, all of whom are at varying levels of their entrepreneurial journey. One thing they have all demonstrated to the team running the initiative at Manchester Council, is the enthusiasm and commitment to get their business ideas off the ground and a series of workshops are underway to give them them the skills they need to succeed before they begin test trading.
A new pop up shop, MY Marketplace is due to open in April and the Market team have been working really hard to get it ready in time, with some fantastic partners at Manchester College, who brought along a small team of their painting and decorating students to prep and paint the space. Whilst this was happening That’s Manchester TV came down to interview us and some of our young businesses (you will see the Manchester College students hard at work in the background!) We hear they have done an absolutely amazing job!
In addition to MY Marketplace a pop up market will be taking place in May to showcase the best of our entrepreneurial talent and we hope that some of these young traders will be put forward for the National Youth Market in September as part of the Love Your Local Market youth enterprise initiative we run in partnership with the NMTF.
The Manchester Youth Market programme is open to people aged 16-30, who live, study, work or volunteer in Manchester.
If you have any questions or queries you can contact the team through the website or follow their progress on Twitter @McrYouthMarket.
