New Saturday produce market is announced for Waterloo, London

On Saturday the 1st March London will get a newcomer to its vibrant weekend food market scene as the Lower Marsh Saturday Market launches in Waterloo.  Located on Lower Marsh in SE1, just behind Waterloo Station, and open every Saturday between 10am-3pm, the new food market will see an exciting variety of stalls selling speciality ingredients and artisanal produce.  Visitors to the weekly market can expect to be tempted by biodynamic fruit and vegetables from Brambletye Farm, award-winning meats from Boarstall Meats, artisanal charcuteries from British charcuterie boys Cannon & Cannon, bread, cakes and desserts, including the now infamous lemon treacle slice from HMP Brixton’s Bad Boys Bakery and traditional Italian foods from the husband and wife team behind The Seriously Italian Company.

To celebrate the launch of the new market touring pop-up restaurant sensation Chateau Marmot (which has travelled the world from Melbourne, to LA to London) will open for business at a secret location on Lower Marsh from the 28th February to 2nd March. For two dinner services and two brunches, the Chateau will create special tasting menus that use only ingredients from the market.  The menus will be overseen by Chateau’s celebrated chef team led by executive chef Ramael Scully, moonlighting from his job as the executive chef at London’s renowned Ottolenghi restaurant group. Tables are by reservation only via www.chateaumarmot.co.uk. The four course dinner costs £44 per head, and four course brunch costs £24 per head.  The secret location will be revealed the week before.

Lower Marsh is a vibrant shopping street just south of Waterloo Station.  It has been home to a street market since the mid-19thcentury, and is now a traditional high street with an eclectic mix of independent shops, cosy cafés, bars, restaurants and vibrant weekday street market.  It is home to two of London’s best vintage clothes shops: Radio Days and What the Butler Wore.  Other independent retailers include deli/café Greensmiths, knitting store I Knit London and Man & Eve art gallery.  To celebrate the new Saturday food market many of the street’s independent shops will be offering special promotions, menus and tasting opportunities every Saturday.
