17 May National Youth Market
Youth Markets are a great way of getting young people to try out a new business idea and in 2014, one of the main aims for Love Your Local Market fortnight, was to encourage 100 youth markets to start across the country.
So we are delighted that the National Youth Market is back. If you are aged between 16 to 30 and have a great product or service to sell? Applications for this year’s National Youth Market, held on St Ann’s Square in Manchester on June 26 and 27, are open.
Run by the NMTF in partnership with Manchester Markets since 2013, the event showcases and celebrates youth entrepreneurship on markets in the UK.
This year’s National Youth Market takes place at the end of June in the heart of Manchester’s vibrant shopping district, St Ann’s Square.
St Ann’s Square hosts a variety of markets throughout the year, including al fresco cafes, bars, traditional festive markets and annual food festivals.
30 pitches are available. Gazebos are supplied and electricity and over-night storage facilities are on site. The team from Manchester Markets will also be on hand to offer tips and advice.
Joe Harrison, chief executive of the NMTF, said: “This is the third time we have run the National Youth Market in Manchester and I believe this year will be bigger and better than ever in St Ann’s Square. It’s a great location – now we need some great traders to fill the pitches!
“Events like this show how market trading is an ideal lean model for young entrepreneurs to start-up and run a retail business, either on markets or market-type events such as craft fairs, festivals and shows. The NMTF is here to support anyone thinking about trading.”
Everyone who trades on the National Youth Market will be assessed by Manchester Markets for the Young Trader of the Year award – with the winner bagging a £500 prize.
Five NMTF memberships will be awarded to Highly Commended young traders, which will provide them with business support, liability protection and supplier discounts for a year.
Support is also available after the event from the NMTF to continue trading at their local market with the support of their local market operator.
The National Youth Market takes place in St Ann’s Square, Manchester, on Friday, June 26 from11am to 5pm and on Saturday, June 27 from 11am to 6pm.
Entrepreneurs aged 16 to 30 who are based in the UK can apply for a pitch on the NMTF’s website at www.nmtf.co.uk/NYM15. Deadline for applications is Friday, May 29 at 5pm.
