Market Rasen – MR BIG Market

Best Social Enterprise Market

Market Rasen’s BIG monthly sees our picturesque Market Place packed with 30-40 stalls including fine foods, arts, crafts and gifts. We are delighted to have picked up another Market of the Year Award, having previously won Best Small Speciality Market.

The initiative was kick-started with money from the Portas Pilot, with Market Rasen having been one of the first 12 towns to receive a grant from central government. Each market is individually promoted with posters, flyers and with PR through local media and the team’s social media presence. Now generating enough revenue to be self-sustaining, pitch fees are set at a modest £20.

The Business Improvement Group believes that markets fulfil a pivotal role in helping a rural town survive and thrive, giving consumers a powerful reason to visit the High Street and support local traders and independent retailers. With the monthly market now firmly established as a regular feature on

our town’s calendar, we are turning our attention to revitalising the weekly Tuesday market, offering affordable local goods to value-conscious residents.

Recognition as the Best Social Enterprise Market is particularly gratifying for the team in Market Rasen, as MR BIG is a Community Interest Company, run by volunteers. The concept has been built and delivered from a standing start, thanks to hundreds of hours of volunteer time over the past two years.

The team have built a database, learned how to erect stalls and space plan events for maximum customer enjoyment. We have worked hard to develop relationships with regular traders and to create a great atmosphere and sense of occasion on market day. Which is similar to how free slot machine games work here

Weather permitting, each of our market days provides a vibrant social and shopping occasion that is right at the heart of our town’s visitor and resident experience. The market looks beautiful and offers customers an authentic Lincolnshire day out.
