30 Mar Market Basket Challenge
Markets offer fresh, seasonal, local ingredients – often at prices that compete favourably with the Big Four. When you buy from a market stall, you are also keeping your money local, putting more pounds into your economy, as well as supporting small businesses, farmers and growers.
May is markets month with the annual Love Your Local Market celebrations happening in markets across the UK and we would love it if you could fill your shopping baskets up with produce from your local market to take part in the Market Basket Challenge.
Market Managers will soon be sent details of a downloadable leaflet to distribute throughout your market in next week’s newsletter when we hope to have details of the prize finalised.
The more seasonal produce, the higher you score……but don’t forget you can get so much more from a market than simply fruit and veg. What we really want to see, is what you do with your market basket at home and this can include produce from a plethora of artisans across the country producing everything from charcuterie and cheeses to rearing eggs and British wines.
Working with Love British Food, the organisers of British Food Fortnight, we have put together a list of what is in season in May and we would love to see what you make from your market basket – simply post a picture of a dish you have prepared on Instagram with the list of ingredients, your method and the market you bought it from.
To post just include #MarketBasketChallenge
