Cambridge set to climb the Tripadvisor Charts

There has been a lot of debate in recent months on LinkedIn about how markets can be more prominent on the worldwide web – it’s a big place, so how can your market stand out from the crowd.

Cambridge Markets are as ever celebrating Love Your Local Market fortnight in style and working closely with surrounding markets to coordinate #LYLM2016 fortnight.  For a full line-up of everything they have in store you can get the lowdown below, and on top of what can only be described as an impressive programme of events for the fortnight; they have booked Princess Elsa to sing, face paint, pose for selfies and hand out LYLM balloons; holding free bike health checks; offering free digital workshops; and holding a selfie competition on Twitter with market shopping vouchers as prizes; as well as handing out 250 free cotton shopping bags emblazoned with the print from the winner of our logo design competition on.

Love Your Local Market was designed to give our British markets a national identity and we do a pretty good job raising the profile of markets online.  The campaign hashtag made 75m impressions on Twitter last May and we are well on course to top that for 2016 – but it is as nothing compared to the 350m unique monthly visitors that Tripadvisor receives each month.  Chris Wade, director at the People and Places Partnership has been asking professional on LinkedIn to ‘share the love for your local market online’ and as an experiment listed his local market on to Tripadvisor to see how hard it was.

You can find out the results on Chris’s blog: Share the love for markets on-line and we’re thrilled that as part of the #LYLM2016 agenda at Cambridge, the markets team will be handing out TripAdvisor cards to encourage feedback and to climb the ‘Things to do in Cambridge’ charts.  We hope other operators will take up the challenge and get markets recognised on such a successful forum and explore the ways in which you can use special code to place a Tripadvisor review box into your own website.

The team in Cambridge have worked hard to make this year’s Love Your Local Market campaign as success, and we do hope to see their entry for the Best Love Your Local Market event in the Great British Market Awards later in the year.  The events planned are being advertised  five times a day over the two week campaign (2 during the breakfast show, 1 in the afternoon & 2 during the drive time show early evening) on Star Radio which will be played in Cambridge, Ely and the surrounding areas with daily listeners of 30,000+. Market Manager Daniel Ritchie has also done interviews with the local press with the Executive Councillor, so we hope they see record numbers coming along to support their market during #YLM2016

  • Wednesday 25th A live food demonstration from a local chef who will be cooking up tasty treats using ingredients available on the market .
