Be The Start

Be The Start

Love Your Local Market is pleased to be partnering with Be The Start, a campaign focussing on sustainable lifestyles brought to you by Start UK which is part of Business In The Community.  You can get involved Be The Start in a number of ways.  Obviously one of our primary objectives is to get more and more people using their local markets, but can you look at ways to perhaps start a School Market?  Alternatively, why not start a social enterprise by getting together with neighbours and selling everything from home-cooked food to locally produced honey at your local market?[pull_quote align=”left”]Love Your Local Market is delighted to get involved in the Be The Start campaign as putting markets back into the heart of local communities is an intrinsic part of our ethos, and we are keen to champion local producers with short-supply chains who can guarantee provenance to their customers.[/pull_quote]You can get involved in Be The Start by car sharing, starting or volunteering at an urban community growing project or organising your own The Big Lunch on Sunday 2 June. We are looking to the Love your Local Market community to get on board with this campaign and celebrate everything that is great about living more sustainably.

Be The Start launched on May 1st and are holding a different theme for every week in the month to highlight various ways we can all work towards a more sustainable life. The theme for this week is Vibrant Communities, which fits in perfectly with the launch of LYLM.  So maybe during our LYLM fortnight you could identify some of the ways you could get involved.  Are you a teacher?  We would love for school children to become involved by visualising, either through an art project, writing competition or poetry composition, how they see the role of markets in 2050 in local communities.  Are you involved in a wellbeing project?  One of the best ways to transfer your knowledge to your local community is to get involved in your local market, hold cookery demonstrations using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, show people how to cook affordably, ….  There are just so many ways. Can you Be The Start?
