Local authorities operate the majority of markets in the United Kingdom, but an increasing number are operated by community and social enterprise groups, farmers, traders and co-operatives. In September 2010 the Department for Communities and Local Government published “Retail Markets – Management Models”. This publication highlights a variety of different management models and indicates the advantages and disadvantages associated with each model.
