A big well done to Oswestry Market who held their first Youth Market on the first day of Love Your Local Market on 14th May – a day that by all accounts was a huge success.

This year’s theme was to encourage young people to use markets as well as to trade on them.  Over 10 stalls were allocated to local schools and colleges to give them a taste of market retailing.

There were cooking demonstrations, nails and beauty treatments, music and stalls selling hand crafted goods made by the pupils themselves.

The picture is of the Mayor with the Marches School who were selling hand-made wind charms.  Walford and North Shropshire College, the Derwen, Maesbury Metals and the Project Group also took stalls on the day and there was a surprise flashmob by the Derwen students.

It really gave the young students a chance to experience market retailing.  Facebook was heavily used to promote the day and both the local radio and press supported the day.

The next events to help celebrate markets in Oswestry is an Antique Market on the 16th May and a Continental Market on the 24th May.
