17 Feb Mission for Markets
Markets have been a major part of our history and have helped shape the development of many towns and cities.
They continue to be an important part of the retail sector and have always been a traditional nurturing ground for small independent retailers. However the dynamic speed of change in retailing generally means that markets are coming under pressure from well-resourced competitors within the retail sector — small and large. In addition local authorities, who are still the biggest market operator, are undergoing massive changes in terms of funding and service delivery.
Markets are changing and it is vital that the markets industry meets the challenge of this change. The first stage of the Mission for Markets, produced jointly by the National Association of British Market Authorities and the National Market Traders Federation, seeks to identify six of the major issues likely to affect markets in the next three to five years.
To find out more and to take the market operator and traders surveys, the results of which will help to shape the industry so that it is fit for purpose in the future, go to the M4Markets website: www.mission4markets.uk
